Distillery Destilaria Portuguesa belongs to the Redondo family, which has been producing liqueurs, brandy, gin and vodka for many years. Destilaria Portuguesa was founded by José Carranque Redondo, "Mr. Liqueur" as the Portuguese call him, as he is the creator of Portugal's most famous brand "Licor Beirao". In 1940, Redondo bought a secret liqueur recipe, invested all his savings in its production and devoted his whole soul to the drink. Since then, the sales of the liqueur have increased and now it enjoys continued success. Today Destilaria Portuguesa owns 12 hectares of land on which the aromatic herbs used to make drinks are grown, the rest of the ingredients are supplied to the distillery from India, Sri Lanka, Brazil and Turkey. In the management of the distilleries, Jose paid particular attention to street advertising. On the roads and in cafes, posters were displayed showing the company's spirits, which attracted attention and aroused people's interest. Advertising is still an integral part of the company's export policy. On June 15, 2005 Don Jose died at the age of 89. Until the last days, he came to the plant every day and monitored the quality of production. “He died, but his soul remained in the factory,” the Portuguese say.
